I was really excited when Next asked me to be a part of their style challenge, pitting 10 British bloggers against 10 of Aussie’s finest to style one Next item in a way that best represents their own style and their national heritage. It’s not something I really stop and think about when putting together an outfit, but British style definitely influences the way I dress. When I think about modern British style icons – Alexa Chung, Kate Moss, Sienna Miller – I always think of a cool, grungy vibe with a streak of girly preppiness. For me, that’s British style, and it’s a style I’m proud to share.

The Next piece I picked was this really versatile zip shirt. I loved its oversized shape and zip detail, and thought it was a great piece to work a British style outfit around, especially with the popularity of the back-to-school trend. I tucked the shirt into faux leather shorts for a twist on a classic school outfit and to give a smart, preppy silhouette. The socks and sandals combination also reminds me of school for some reason, and I love the metallic material of the socks against the canvas heels. For some colour and structure, I finished the outfit with added a mustard yellow Topshop blazer I scored in the January sales for £20. To make sure the whole outfit wasn’t too preppy and keep that British edge, I finished the whole thing off with messy hair, a mix of bracelets and bright blue nails with cool pirate-themed tattoos.
