When M&S asked me to make a Pinterest board featuring key pieces from their SS12 Limited Collection surrounding a summer theme, I knew I had to do sports luxe. It’s a trend I really wasn’t a fan of to begin with – trackies and baseball caps with heels? Er … no thanks. And then I began to come around when I started seeing bloggers and designers cleverly incorporating sporty details into their clothes and outfits without being too full on. When I was looking through M&S’s Limited Collection Pinterest board, so many of the pieces seemed inspired by this trend, so it was difficult picking just a few items to go into my SS12 Sports Luxe with M&S board! Here’s what I ended up choosing and how I’d style them …
This blue dress has just the right amount of sporty references – the high neck and elliptical hem – whilst still being elegant and flattering. I’d wear it with a metal arm chain and black ankle strap heels for a cool urban look.
Pleated Corset Chiffon Vest Top
The stripes and colours are what make this gorgeous top sporty, and I love the pleats – it’s such a cute summer top. While it would work with denim cut offs, I’d pair it with some loose-fitting white trousers and chunky white shoes to keep the colours light.
The chunky metal style of this necklace would really toughen up a pretty summer dress, and adds a gladitorial feel to outfits that would be great for the festivals.
Frill Front Asymmetric Hem Dress
I love the asymmetry of this dress, and the light fabric and colour give it a really young, sporty feel. It’d look amazing with platform sandals and an oversized knitted cardigan on a summer evening.
Pure Cotton Striped Jersey T-Shirt
This top is so sporty – the Raglan style, the stripes, the mesh fabric of the arms. It would look great worn simply with denim cut offs and high-tops, or could be smartened up under a white blazer and light pastel jeans.
The cut of these trousers is amazing, and really demonstrates how the sporty trend can be subtly referenced through the cut and fabric of a piece. I thought these trousers would be great to incorporate into a summer work wardrobe, or even worn casually with Converse and a loose tee tucked in.
