Like many girls I’m sure, Carrie Bradshaw will always have a special place in my heart. Even though her style isn’t exactly my thing, you can’t help but adore how individual she is in Sex and the City – how she really means every outfit, loves every look. She’s so playful and inventive with her fashion, and truly dresses for herself. That’s inspiring. And with that love for Carrie comes love for the actress that portrays her, Sarah Jessica Parker. So you can probably imagine the loudness of my squeal when I heard about SJP’s first ever shoe collection. Hint – it was loud.

Designed in collaboration with George Malkemus, CEO of none other than Carrie-favourite Manolo Blahnik, SJP’s debut collection is inspired by Carrie’s quirky, colourful style and Parker’s own childhood. There’ll be bags too, and a trench intended to accentuate accessories, but of course the focus is on the shoes. And what shoes they are. They’re super girly and playful, in clean, versatile shapes. The sort of shoes that are perfect for dressy evening looks, but also ones you can throw on with jeans and an oversized shirt and still feel ultra feminine in.

How excited are you?! Take a look at more behind-the-scenes insights with this video. The collection will launch online here in a few weeks, so keep those peepers peeled! I’ll be saving up for those adorable nude pumps with the bow-strap. I think Carrie would approve. x

GROWN UP KICKS

Because sometimes you just feel like clean lines and simplicity. I’m constantly inspired by sportswear styles for my own outfits – they involve my three favourite Cs: casual, comfortable, chic. I love how easy it is to slip on a pair of sporty leggings and sneaks. You can add pretty much anything on top, though I usually go for an oversized jumper, tee or sweatshirt to keep in with the sporty vibe, and then just grab a backpack as the finishing touch.

Can you believe my backpack is from Next (and only £28)? There’s something about it that just makes it look super expensive. Nude and black are always a winning combination, and this bag is so grown-up and sophisticated (whilst still having just that right amount of edge) that you could wear it with more dressy outfits too. It’d be gorgeous in a workwear look! Next are currently encouraging us ladies to up the ante with their accessories – take a look at the little video they’ve made for more statement accessory inspiration.

Have a great rest of the weekend loves! The sun has managed to peek out from behind the clouds just a little this weekend for us. I hope it’s shining for you too wherever you are 🙂 x

Lifestyle | iPad Mini Review

The Bake House St Albans

BLOGGING BAKE BREAK

Girl in the Lens lifestyle blogThe Bakehouse St AlbansUK lifestyle blogsPastries and cakesiPad mini review for bloggers

tablet: Apple

Very excited today to introduce you all to my new love. Actually, scrap that – two of my new loves. One is the wonderful cafe we took these photos in, The Bakehouse in St Albans. It’s my new go-to for coffee, cake and a snuggly place to hide away from the winter cold, and is basically decor-inspiration heaven. My second new love to show off is my gorgeous new iPad, which I got recently from Argos as they’re having a great sale on at the moment.

I gave my old iPad to my dad a while back since his laptop is so rubbish and have been looking a replacement since, and with the need to write and blog more on the move I just thought the Mini version would be more portable. I’m so glad I went for it! It’s super easy to just pop in my handbag and go, and the smaller size is a lot more comfortable to hold. The only thing I was worried about was the smaller keyboard, but after having used it for a few weeks I can safely say that’s not an issue – if anything, the size of the keypad is even easier.

I haven’t tried any tablets from other brands as I’m a bit of an Apple convert now since getting an iPhone and MacBook Air, but I’d totally recommend an iPad Mini if you’re looking for a tablet. It’s just such a beautiful piece of kit, and it works so perfectly and intuitively. I love the simplicity of just opening up my writing app (I use Editorial – it’s clean and clear, and great value for money compared to other editors) and typing away. My Air is starting to get a little jealous 😉

Hope you’re having a great week so far lovelies! For outfit details from this look, check out our last post here. Happy Wednesday x

P.S. If you’d like to get your hands on a free tablet, check out Curry’s competition for bloggers at the moment to win one of two Microsoft Surface Pro’s!

Happy Monday beauties 🙂 I hope you all had a great weekend? The weather was a bit rubbish here, raining pretty much constantly, so Callum and I didn’t get as much blog shooting done as we’d have liked. But we did treat ourselves to a long breakfast in Bill’s (their bubble and squeak is one of my favourite things ever!) and had a little cinema trip. It made me realise just how much of a workaholic I am – it felt so weird to not be working on blogging or writing! I haven’t had a proper day off for pretty much a year, which is pretty bad, I know. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to make sure I take time off for myself, so we’ll see how that goes.

Rain was definitely not a problem when we shot this little outfit last week. You all know I love colour in my outfits – I feel without it – and there’s nothing more colourful than this super sunny yellow bag from Paul’s Boutique’s amazing SS14 collection. It’s the easiest bag to just grab and go when you’ve got a chic muted outfit on and want a dash of something bright. It’s also super feminine, so it helped balance out my menswear outfit here. And do you spot the polkadot print on the lining inside – how cute!

Hope you all have a wonderful week. I’m currently down with something, all coldy and fevery and achey, but hopefully I’ll be better soon as it’s my birthday on Thursday! Speak soon sweeties x

Life this last year has been a complete whirlwind. Callum started his big new job in the city, I’ve been juggling writing with other jobs to try and stay afloat, and we’ve both spent every weekend and evening working on the blog, keeping up the posts and making sure it’s the best it can be – for you guys, of course, and for ourselves. It’s been super tough. Brilliant and exciting and challenging in all the best ways too, for sure … but it has been hard on us. That’s why we feel blessed to have so many people in our lives who’ve really supported us and made a tough year that much more manageable. Our friends and family are just the best and we’re grateful for everything they’ve done for us, no matter how big or small, but two people in particular have been extra amazing – my mum and dad.

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to thank them enough for all the things they’ve done for me and Callum. They’ve helped us so much with the move into our new flat. The first night we stayed here, dad and Callum were up past midnight putting together our Ikea bed, while mum was busy cleaning and baking an apple strudel that made the whole place smell like heaven. They kitted us out with the gorgeous green sofa and wooden dining table you can spot in the photos above, along with a million other miscellaneous things you forget you need when you move. They still receive all our blog packages because we don’t have space here. They help me with money when they know I’m struggling, without me ever having to ask. Mum brings round home-cooked food when I’m ill, Dad sews my clothes when they get holes, and they’re both just there for me, all the time, even if it’s just a chat and a hug after a long day.

Alright – gush over! I’m sure they’re thoroughly embarrassed by now. The point to all of this is that Waitrose got in touch recently about helping us throw a surprise champagne celebration as a thank you to someone special in our lives. Throughout January, Waitrose have been holding their super sweet ‘thank you’ campaign, giving a complimentary bottle of champagne to their online customers with every single order. With the help of a voucher to spend at our local Waitrose store and our own bottle of bubbly, Callum and I were also able to share the love and hold a little evening to thank my parents for everything they’ve done for us.

We had such a fun time, laughing and chatting and drinking away into the small hours. Callum and I used our Waitrose voucher to buy a thank-you card for my parents and create a party food feast of Chinese bites and dim-sum – including the addition of some super tasty sticky-rice parcels made by Callum’s mum (big thank you to Callum’s parents too for all the support they’ve given us in the past year as well. They’ve also been amazing). As always, I was super rushed getting ready and left it to five minutes before my parents arrived, just managing to quickly pop on an easy little bodycon dress from New Look (£14.99, bargain!) and this super sweet origami necklace. I think my parents definitely out-styled me here though – look at my dad chilling in his asymmetric-patterned shirt and my mum with her preppy-chic style.

So there it is. A perfect little evening that I hope let my parents see just how grateful Callum and I are for everything they’ve done for us recently. It was so nice to be able to take the time out to treat them for once, instead of the other way round. Now we’ve got our own place, I’m hoping there’ll be many more times like this with our friends and family. There’s nothing quite like a cosy night in full of laughter, good food and friends x
