Studded maxi dress

DIY kit (including dress) c/o Boohoo

Hi girls! So as we gear up to festival season here in the UK, one of my favourite online brands Boohoo have come up with a fun competition to get us all DIYing our key festival items. After all, it’s so much nicer to wear an item that you know is totally unique and your own, and plus – DIY is just downright fun. Even though I am super clumsy with things like this, I really enjoyed putting together my customised maxi! Barely a glue-related disaster in sight …

What do you think of my item? I love it! With gemstones and glitter paints, there were so many options for customising the dress, but in the end I went with studs as I wanted something that didn’t look too home-made. If you want to have a go, check out the Boohoo blog for loads of DIY tips and ideas, and once you’ve made your piece, don’t forget to enter their competition to win festival tickets here. Have fun! x

Cat Ears and Cat Shoes

Callum and I just could not resist shooting this kitty kat outfit with his gorgeous dog Reven, who actually seemed pretty friendly to this little cat 😉 isn’t she a beauty! She’s old now and has a bad leg, but she’s still always up for a jog around the park, and she got a little fed up of having to sit still to take these photos!

I have long been a fan of the Charlotte Olympia and Marc Jacobs cat flats, but just cannot afford the high price tag, so I was delighted to discover these great copies from Chicwish. They’re comfy and super cute, and add a bit of whimsy to any outfit. I was feeling extra playful this weekend, so I added a cat ear headband from ASOS. Yes, I got some funny looks from people walking past, but I was happy. At least I toned the look down with a black shift dress. I can’t get over how beautiful the shoulder detail is! And I love that this dress works for both daytime and evening outfits – just switch flats for a pair of heels and you’re good to go. x

Must Haves Shoes for Spring/Summer 13

Here’s a gratuitous slab of shoe porn for all you eager girlies! These are my five favourite footwear trends for SS13, and three of the best picks to hit those key styles. Before we started this blog, I have to admit, I wasn’t really one for shoes – I was more of a bag girl. But over the years I’ve really come to understand the transformational power of a good pair of shoes. They can change up an outfit in an instant, and you can get more wear from the same outfits by just switching up your shoes.

CUT OUT BOOTS

Cut out boots - Alexander Wang, River Island, Jeffrey Campbell

The cool, urban girl’s must-have. The beauty of these boots is that they’ll last you through to Autumn/Winter too, so don’t be afraid to invest in a good pair – just swap the denim shorts and tees for skinny jeans and jumpers. I have fallen hard for these Jeffrey Campbell Everly boots. They’re available in a range of gorgeous colours, but there’s just something about black ankle boots that always wins.

PASTELS

Pastel shoes - ASOS, Jean-Michel Cazabat, Keds

Pastels are synonymous with Spring/Summer, and this year don’t be afraid to go full on, head-to-toe candylicious. I love sneaks and heels in pastel colours, but these ASOS mint brogues win hands down for me. A great juxtaposition of menswear-inspired design with a girly colour, and the leather is buttery soft too.

NEON

Neon shoes - Loeffler Randall, Vans, Rebecca Minkoff

Where pastels are, neons are never far behind. Go for splashes of colours to accessorise a simple white dress, or make your outfit electric by mixing different neons. I cannot get over how beautiful these Loeffler Randall sandals are – the shape of the straps, the two-tone colour way … just perfect. They’d be super cool with summery floral print dresses and a long white satchel.

PRINTS

Print shoes - Steve Madden, Valentino, Alice + Olivia

Leopard, snake and stripes are three of SS13’s hottest prints. As you know from recent outfit posts, I’m a huge fan of stripes, and these Alice + Olivia pumps are no exception – they’d add a touch of whimsy and quirkiness to any outfit. However, I have to say that these Valentino heels are my favourite. I love all of Valentino’s Rockstud range, and have been super jealous seeing them on so many of the fashion blogs I follow. The low heel and triple ankle-strap and stud details make these shoes a multi-trend-hitting whammy.

ANKLE STRAP FLATS

Ankle strap flats - Call it Spring, ASOS, Saint Laurent

Oh, ankle-straps, how I love thee. Seriously – I can’t get enough of them. While they’re super gorgeous on heels, ankle-straps this season have been seen on many a flat too, and they really work to turn a normal flat into something a little more statement-worthy. These monochrome beauties from Call it Spring are next on my to-buy list – versatile, cute, and perfect for colder weather too.

Hope you like my picks lovely girlies! Which is your favourite? I sourced all of these beauties below via Shopcade, a really awesome site that is pretty much Pinterest for shopping. Definitely take a look if you fancy discovering some pretty new things 🙂 x

Denim Dungaree Dress

dress: c/o Fashion Union, top: Primark, bag: c/o Next, shoes: Converse, necklace: c/o Cinderela B

There’s just something about a denim dungaree dress that makes you feel 13 again. I love this one from Fashion Union, which has an a-line skirt and is in a super wearable blue denim colour. You could throw it on over anything – a crop top, a sheer shirt, a tee, a jumper, a printed top – and it’d look great. I teamed it with white high-top Converse and a fun backpack I got from Next last year for an easy, festival-inspired style.  Now I just need more sun so I can wear this outfit again! x

Polkadot Trousers

Happy Tuesday everyone! Hope you’re all having a good week so far. I’ve been down with a summer flu unfortunately, but just looking at these pictures we shot last weekend is perking me up! Polkadots and a playful graphic tee are just the things for an instant mood boost. I have long been a fan of Uniqlo for their quirky prints, cheerful colours and affordable clothing (these trousers are just £9.90 (!!!), and the top – part of a collaboration collection with Lulu Guiness – is £12.90), and this outfit is an instant favourite. It’s just a classic tee and trousers combo, but the prints and colours give it a playful twist. x
