Parisian Style

There’s something Parisian about this outfit, don’t you think? I think it’s the combination of breton stripes, blue jeans with the cuffs rolled up, a black hat and menswear-inspired shoes. Perhaps this is the universe trying to tell me to just book that holiday to Paris, ok? All right, universe. If you insist! 😉

I’m looking so happy in these photos because I’ve got that new shoe feeling. You know when you find a pair that fit perfectly, look great, are comfy enough to wear all day, AND go with a million and one outfits? That’s these shoes. They’re from Sperry, who usually do uber casual boat shoes, which I’ve always loved because they’re comfy and perfect for everyday wear. But these white-grey lace ups wouldn’t look out of place in somewhere like The Kooples or Reiss. The menswear-inspired design really gives them an edge. You can also wear them without the laces if you prefer. I’m finding them insanely easy to style. Just pop them on with any outfit, no matter how simple or whatever the occasion, and they finish it perfectly.

Can I also get a holla! for how amazing these jeans are? The colour is just so vibrant, and they fit amazingly. Lee have come up with a selection of sunbleached colours perfect for summer. While I also love the pink and green versions, these blue jeans are great to introduce into your wardrobe as they’re easy to style (wear them with the same things you’d wear your dark indigo or light bleached denim shades) but add a little kick to your outfits. You can get find the whole range at Topshop and Selfridges, or on their website.

P.S. You might have noticed that I’m holding a copy of Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor in these photos. Being a total bookworm (I read at least two hours a day, mostly when I’m supposed to be sleeping) and an author, I’d thought I’d sometimes share with you books I’m currently loving. I’m actually rereading Daughter because the second in the trilogy is now out and I want to refresh my memory of what happened. Laini’s writing is so beautiful and the concept is just so divine – check it out if you like YA urban fantasy!  x

Striped Jumper Dress and Mint Converse High Tops

dress: ASOS, parka: River Island, shoes: Converse

all items c/o ShopStyle

Hi guys and dolls! Hope everyone’s having a great week so far. I’ve had a really busy but super productive one – finished my new book, had the page proofs sent through on the other one from my publisher, and did lots of blogging bits and bobs. I can’t wait for the weekend now to party with my friends!

This outfit is all about transitional spring style. You know, that awkward time when it’s warm enough to lose your winter coat but not go without a jacket. I always think parkas are perfect for this type of weather (and they’ll protect you from spring showers too!), and they’re just so easy to throw on top of any outfit. I’ve been wearing this River Island one constantly – it’s perfect with jeans and a jumper. My other essential for transitional months is a knit dress. It’ll keep you warm, and if the sun decides to show then you won’t feel too hot in it either. This striped one from ASOS is already sold out, but I do hope they’ll get more stock as it is amazing! The easiest piece to pull on and feel great, and breton strips are flattering on all girls. And to finish off the look is the ultimate transitional piece for any closet – high top Converse. They make any outfit.

I sourced all the items for this look using ShopStyle, a really useful online shopping search engine. Just type in what you’re looking for (it can be a really broad term, such as ‘leather skirt’, or more specific) and you’ll get a  comprehensive list of available products in that style from across the internet. While I love ShopStyle for general browsing, it’s best when you’re looking for a specific thing. I’ve been after these mint Converse high tops for ages, but hadn’t been able to find them on my usual go-to sites like ASOS etc, but ShopStyle directed me to Next of all places! I wouldn’t have thought of searching there, so it’s a great tool for hunting down those hard to find items. Give it a try and let me know what you think 🙂 x

Rainy Day Outfit

April showers fashion

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5

Items sourced via Shopcade

Let’s be honest, it’s not so much April showers as every single stupid month of the year showers here in the UK, but that just means we need even more to invest in fun clothes that will banish those rain day blues away! These items are both practical and super cute, perfect for those days when the rain is cramping your style and you just want a few simple items to throw on and look great. It’s all about the accessories when it comes to rainy day clothes – go for plastic and leather for easy wipe-down cleaning, and bright colours to cheer you up. I am absolutely in love with this adorable rain mac with ears from ASOS (but then again I’m drawn to anything fashion related with ears) and these heart-shaped sunglasses from Urban Outfitters will finish off any cute spring look x

Snowy Fashion Shoot

dress: c/o Lulu’s, shoes: ALDO, socks: Marks and Spencer, ring: c/o Delilah Dust

Yes, I’m in the snow in the freezing cold in a tiny, backless dress. But when it was snowing the other day (April, Mother Nature – it’s APRIL) Callum and I couldn’t resist doing a creative photoshoot in his garden, and I’m delighted with the photos. It’s dreamy and fun and really showcases what an amazing photographer Callum is (and that I look silly when I jump). This dress from Lulu’s was the perfect dress we needed for this shoot – something flirty and pretty and magical.

I’ve seen some nasty comments about fashion bloggers on the web recently. It’s sad, because the internet is a great place for individuals to express their creativity, but it also makes it easy for people to hide behind their laptops and write mean things, protected by the anonymity of the web. One of the things those people are saying is how fashion bloggers don’t actually wear what they shoot. For example, they’d look at this post and say no one would ever wear a dress and heels in the middle of a snowstorm. And they’re right – no one would. But I would certainly wear this outfit to a more suitable occasion, and this shoot was all about having fun and doing something different and creative.

Anyway, I hope you guys like these pictures are much as Callum and I do, and I assure you all – no little half-Chinese girls were harmed in the making of this shoot! 😉 x

Mavala ‘That’s My Colour’

If you’re like me, you feel naked without your nails painted, and you have an ever growing collection of polishes in all the colours under the sun in your beauty cabinet. And sometimes when you’re out and about, you see an object – a roll of wallpaper, a piece of clothing, a teapot – anything! – and think, that would make a great nail varnish colour. Well, lovely ladies, your prayers have finally been answered by the beauty gods, as Mavala’s new campaign gives you the chance to design your very own polish!

Starting from today, Mavala are inviting you to send in photos of objects in colours that you’d love to see as a nail polish, and at the end of the campaing, three colours will be chosen to be made into a mini collection! To find out how to enter, watch the following video (you’ll spot a familiar face ;))
