Luxury Scented Candles

Melt Candles Candle photograph

Scented candles by Melt

With Valentines Day just around the corner, it’s time to get romantic! Scented candles are one of the best ways to create an intimate setting, and even when I’m home alone I love to have candles and fairy lights on – I find the soft lighting is just so relaxing. This candle from Melt is scented with verbena and clary sage, with notes of silver lavender, cashmere woods and white cedar. Verbena is one of my favourite scents, and while it’s usually known for its uplifting properties, with this candle it’s a very soothing aroma. I can’t help picking up my candle to take more of its scent in with a deeper breath when it’s lit! Scrummy 🙂

Hope everyone’s had an amazing weekend and have gots lots of exciting things planned for the comin week! x

Trend Spotting at Reiss

Reiss is notoriously good at hitting the key trends each season, and I always think of them as high-street verging on the edge of designer. Here I’ve picked four of my favourite trends for SS13 and shown you which Reiss pieces you need to hit these looks … x

MONOCHROME

What SS13 list could go without mentioning monochrome? Perhaps the one trend everyone’s heard about, and the high street have been quick to follow. I am not a huge fan of the more graphic monochrome looks (stripes and geometric patterns) but I prefer a softer approach of subtle prints and simple colour blocking. It’s all about keeping the look clean and chic. Team black jeans and a white knit with black boots and a white bag for a cool, simplistic look, and inject some colour with a bright lipstick. A black and white polkadot dress is a feminine and flirty way to try the trend and perfect for summer.

PATTERNS

Graphic, floral and oriental prints and patterns trend SS13

This season, graphic patterns, lots of floral and oriental-inspired prints are in. I love how subtle many of these patterns are – it makes them easier to mix and match, and is an accessible way to try out prints. Try printed jeans with plain tees for a dash of pattern, or accessories which nod to patterns through their design – like the flower bag and colour-block flats above.

METALLIC ACCESSORIES

 Metallic accessories trend with Reiss

For the ultimate urban cool, this trend is all about hard, metallic accessories that will toughen up any look. Go for belts with metal chains and straps for a literal take on the trend, and team them with simple dresses to make them stand our, or take a more subtle approach with metallic bags and printed accessories to add that hint of shimmer.

MANNISH SILHOUETTES

Mannish silhouettes trend SS13 with Reiss

In my book, mannish silhouettes are always in. I love how subtly sexy oversized clothing can be, as long as you get the balance between femininity and boyishness right. Go for unshapely dresses in a girly colour and team with heels for chic sex-appeal, or keep it simple with oversized knits and tops with skinny jeans. A wide-brimmed hat in a dark colour is always an easy way to inject a bit of boy-power into your outfit.

Statement Coat and Toe-Capped Heels

This year, one of my fashion resolutions was to dress in a more feminine way, and I have to say I’ve been really enjoying it. I won’t ever replace my love for boots and oversized jumpers and tiny shorts, but it has been fun styling looks that are more ladylike. Two additions to my wardrobe then to keep with this theme have been these gorgeous toe-cap heels from the Louise Roe Collection for StylistPick and this statement coat from FCUK. My parents took me on a little shopping spree of the FCUK sale for my birthday (it’s their favourite store haha) and we picked up a bunch of gorgeous items for shocking prices. My favourite was this coat – the colour! The faux-fur lined collar! The sleek simplicity! And such a bargain at £35. I see the weather has turned cold again just as I got this baby. A sign? I think so x

Leather Skirt

Oh Motel, can you do no wrong? I think this label is quickly becoming one of my favourites for sexy staple items your wardrobe just feels naked without. This leather-look skirt is so perfect I’ve been wearing it all the time since it arrived in the post – under oversized jumpers, with tees tucked in like here, with prim shirts and heels for work. It’s a versatile little piece. I’ve just discovered it comes in suede-look orange and blue too, which will be great for the summer. Every new year I impose a spending ban on myself for clothes, and after just a few days I always cave. I think I’ll just have to accept that I’m always going to be buying new clothes, and hey – if it makes you happy … x

Pastel Mint Dress

dress: ASOS, shoes: ALDO

Another post from my summer archives. Man these posts are making me miss the heat and having a tan! I had to share this beautiful mint dress with you because it’s unlike anything I’ve seen before – the cool transparent cut outs give it sex appeal but aren’t too slutty, and the colour is just beautiful. The only problem that I have with it is that it’s super tight on the chest – I’m a 32DD, and you would NOT tell it from these pictures, but trust me, they are well and truly squashed in there! Other than that, it’s a dress that makes you feel totally girly and amazing. I haven’t worn it this winter as the colour makes it more of a summery dress, and I like the almost vintage-feel it has when paired with the cream sandals.
