Mavala Blogger Spotlight

Girl in the Lens - Mavala Blogger Spotlight April 2012

I was so happy to be picked for cosmetics staple Mavala’s April blogger spotlight feature. Not only did they send me some goodies, but they also asked me some questions about my fashion and beauty style, so it serves as a nice little interview for any of my lovely readers (that’s you!) who might want to know a little more about me. Have a read of it here!

Pastels – Peach and Pink

Peach and pink pastels

all items Nasty Gal, Free People and Planet Blue

Pastels and softer colours have come to dominate Spring and Summer collections, and I’m wholeheartedly embracing this as I love these lighter colours. They’re flattering on all skin tones and so easy to layer. My favourite pastel colours are pink and peach – above are some of my favourite picks from three of my favourite stores that I’m lusting after this Wednesday. I can’t pick a favourite, but I’m leaning towards the gorgeous low neck playsuit on the bottom row (third along). It’d be so stunning with some neon platforms and leg cuffs.

Adapting Summer Clothes for Colder Weather

dress: French Connection (c/o Zalando), jacket: H&M, shoes: ASOS, belt: ASOS, bag: River Island

Well, the sun came and went here in the UK, what a shock! I’d probably been a bit hasty in bringing out all my summer clothes and stuffing my winter things away, so I’ve been trying to adapt my summer clothes for this colder weather. I was sent this gorgeous French Connection dress from the lovely girls over at Zalando a few weeks back, when it seemed like summer was here, and I wore it so many times as it was so easy to throw on with some spring platforms, a cute little belt and a light denim jacket. You’ll probably see what I mean in an outfit post over summer!

Now the Arctic conditions have returned, I’ve realised the dress is also great for colder weather with this khaki jacket and ASOS heels. I love injecting colour into all my outfits, so these shoes are great with their orange band. Also, not sure if you can see in the pictures but I’m wearing a cute little belt with SMILE across it in gold letters. It’s always nice to spread a little positivity! When the weather is even colder, this dress would be great with some fun leggings or tights and boots. It could also be good for work too with a smart blazer and flats depending on your office’s dress code.

PS. Do check out Zalando’s website – they have free shipping and returns, so like ASOS you don’t have to worry about P&P prices. I’m always on the look out for new online stores, as I don’t have much time to go to actual stores that often, and I love how they have so many brands under one ‘roof’ (as it where). The Zalando store is MASSIVE, so I’d recommend browsing for items or brands to save trawling through stuff for hours. Zalando have given me a code for my readers to get you £5 off all orders over £50 (excluding sale items), so that will hopefully get you started! Just input zal5discount when you checkout. Let me know what you think!

Blogs I Love – Ring My Bell by Ashley Madekwe

Ring My Bell blog - Ashley Madekwe

source: http://ashley-ringmybell.blogspot.co.uk/

Ashley’s blog has long been a favourite of mine. She’s got a simple style and is never afraid to re-use the same items again and again, which I love as it makes her blog realistic and accessible. According to her FAQ, her staple items are a leather jacket, skinny jeans and a good t- shirt – pretty much my staples too! And I love how she describes her style as ‘un-committed’. Life’s too short to stick to one style, so don’t be afraid to mix it up girls and try new things! Follow Ashley’s lead by playing with colours and mixing hard and soft textures. I love how she keeps all her outfits cool with great accessories – never too much, and her shoe choices are spot on.

YooLa Cleopatra elegant necklace

Marni embellished gauze and leather clutch

Night look

Megan Park Sequin Jacket

Alexander Wang silk crepe utility tank

Zara strappy sandal with buckles

ASOS Leather Portfolio Clutch With Metal Tip

Topshop Micro Dot Pointelle Tights

Completely in love with this blue Rag & Bone skirt. I know I’ve said that of other skirts before but I mean it this time. I’m really in love with it. As in, buy it a ring and go to bed with it at night in love. It’s such a cool, modern take on tweed – the unexpected colour, the summery twist on the fabric, the edgy zip and leather details. It’s one of those skirts that can see you from day to night to day again. You could style it a million ways, but above are two of my favourite looks for it. And though the skirt always steals the show, can I just say how incredible that Megan Park Sequin Jacket is in the night look? I’ve been looking for the perfect little sequin jacket, and I think this just may be it.
