Metallic Skirts

Metallic Skirts

1: Elizabeth and James Crawford metallic linen-blend skirt

2: Elizabeth And James Full lace mini skirt

3: Robert Rodriguez Sequin And Bead Embellished Silk Skirt

They were all over fashion week. I originally thought them too tacky, too brash. But having seen them being styled with sheer fabrics, neutral colours, sharp tailoring or loose tops, I’ve been converted. These are my favourite three. I’d probably end up using 1 and 2 like I would a normal short skirt – wear a large tee over it for a relaxed, daytime look – but no. 2 would be a cute skirt to pair with an array of tucked in tops for evening adventures.

Rumi Neely is such a fashion icon for me as not only are her outfits amazing but, most importantly, I see my own style in them – though she of course takes it to a new level. That’s inspiring to me, and shows me how I can develop my sense of fashion. I just love how effortless her style seems. Casual, almost boyish, with lots of boots, denim shorts and jumpers. It projects such confidence that you take one look at her and instantly understand that she is completely at ease with herself and the world.

Hear from the woman herself about her style, blog and inspiration in these great interviews – Teen Vogue, Helooo Gorgeous, Prabal Gurung.

Autumnal Folk Look

More Polyvore guys. I’m addicted! This is an autumnal, folk look inspired by mushroom shades and natural textures, created for the Call It Spring competition.

I highly recommend Polyvore for testing out trends, outfits and colours. It allows you to really visualise how an outfit comes together.

Westfield Car Bootique – The AW11 Trends

Westfield Car BootiqueWestfield Car Bootique - Ted BakerWestfield Car Bootique - River Island

Well I’ll be the first to admit that on a beautiful day like this I really wasn’t keen on being inside a shopping centre. I wanted to be outside, in the sun, getting a cheeky October tan! But when fashion calls, it’s a natural instinct for me to answer! So I headed over today to the last day of Westfield’s Car Bootique to check out what fashion goodies lay in store.

The Car Bootique, which ran from Tuesday 27th September to Sunday 2nd October, is basically a traditional car boot fair on steroids, with some of Westfield London’s most popular brands each taking over a gorgeous Mercedes-Benz car to showcase their must-have buys for this season. It also featured a gorgeous fashion show of six key AW11 trends – androgyny, fur and coats, heritage, party wear, jewel tones, sixties – and this was my favourite bit of the event.

I loved each look in every trend, but some of the price tags were a little out of my reach, so I’ve selected a few key pieces under £100 each from my favourite trends. These won’t make your bank account angry but they will give you a huge spring in your step as you walk into this season feeling on trend and on budget!

Fur and coats trend:

Leg warmers: River Island, £18

Ok, so the dog is amazing but unfortunately she’s got an owner already! So why don’t you channel her gorgeous furry style with these beautiful leg warmers from River Island. Wear them over bare legs during the season transition and then over tights once the weather get colder.

Fur and coast trendShoes: River island, £65

What I love about these shoes is that they don’t take the animal kingdom reference too literally. They hint of exotic locations, safari nights and animal skins without throwing them in your face. They’d be perfect for a hot night-time look teamed with some leather trousers (see the look below) and simple accessories.

Fur and coats trendBag: Next, £32

Trousers: Label Lab at House of Fraser, £60

No way would I have guessed this bag was only £32. It’s a beauty, adding some of attitude to any look. I also had to feature these gorgeous leather trousers because they’re a key piece for this season. Wear them the same way you’d wear jeans, but trust me, they’ll give you more swag in your walk!

Heritage trend:

Heritage trendShawl: Massimo Dutti, £69.90

Leggings: Zara, £29.99

Heritage has come a long way from tweed jackets. Think down-to-earth fabrics and tones, mixing prints and bold layering. I love this shawl because it looks kind of like a cape and can be worn in a variety of ways. It’s a cool alternative to coats and jackets. It goes great with these gorgeous purple-pink leggings, which are a great way to inject some colour and pattern into more neutral outfits.

Party wear trend:

Party wear trendTrousers: Pull & Bear, £39.99

I’ve loved Pull & Bear since coming across them on holiday in Spain, so I was super psyched when they arrived in Westfields. These amazing trousers are rocking the metallic trend and look far more expensive than they are. Don’t just keep these in the cupboard for nights out – these trousers can work just as well during the day paired with a slouchy tee and boots.

Jewel tones trend:

Another Spanish brand that has finally landed in the UK, and again another item that looks far more expensive than it is. This beautiful blazer is perfect for work, shopping trips, nights out … anything! It’s a beautiful colour that can suit all skin tones

Balmain SS2012: Leather, Metallics, Denim and Prints

This is what Balmain do. Their SS2012 collection has key pieces that can be taken and updated every season, with gold, blue and black hues that can be wintry as well as summery, and the shapes are boyish but elegant. Love the almost art-deco, Las Vegasy feel to the collection. It’s great to see Balmain move towards a more polished and elegant look with this collection without losing their complete rockstar AWESOMENESS!
