I’ve been obsessed with Topshop’s gorgeous little £18 camis this summer (you know the ones!) and haven’t wanted to say goodbye to them when switching over to my winter wardrobe! Luckily they’re great little tops to wear under fluffy cardigans or leather jackets, so they work for the colder weather months too. This look was a little menswear inspired – dark jeans, black boots, chunky watch. If I’m honest, I wear mens watches more than I do women’s ones! I just love the more industrial designs and prefer how they sit on my wrists. But I like to balance out the boyish influences with feminine touches – a sparkly necklace like my new Pandora leaf pendant and a flirty lipstick colour.

Is everyone having a good week so far? I took a little break this weekend as I finished the first draft of my new novel on Friday, but I’m diving straight into editing it today. It’s lovely, sitting here working while a thunderstorm rumbles outside, autumn sounds drifting in through my open window. You can really feel winter on the air! Can’t believe it’s just a few weekends until Christmas … x

WINTER PASTELS

Another oversized jumper and skirt combo I’m afraid, but as it’s basically my fall uniform you might be seeing it a lot around here! I like to wear bigger things on top because I’m conscious of my skinny arms and broad shoulders, so I feel like it gives me a bit of much needed extra padding! I also like how it can go from casual to chic in a second if you just trade day boots for a pair of heels. Pastels are one of my favourite summer colours, but I feel they work just as well in winter. There’s something so lovely about pale pink and grey on a wintry day! My new Hedonia skirt (which is on sale at the moment for just £9!) is a great pastel piece for colder weather as it’ll look great with dark tights too. I’m actually wearing the skirt backwards in these pictures as I prefer the zip down the back.

Hope everyone is having a great week so far. I’m catching up after a period of bad asthma and still recovering, so mostly just writing from home. I’m almost at the end of the book I’m writing – so sad! It’ll be great to be able to start work on a new story, but I love these characters so much, and I’ll miss spending time with them (do I sound a bit crazy? Probably). Happy Wedesday sweeties! x

See how ridiculously happy I look in that last photo? It’s because just over a month ago, my dream came true – my debut novel was published. Published by the most fantastic children’s book publisher in the business, Hot Key Books (founded by the wonderful Sarah Odedina – she was Harry Potter’s publisher at Bloomsbury), championed by my gorgeous and fierce literary agent Nicola Barr, who saved my novel from the slushpile a year ago, and now stocked in shops all over the world. It really has all been a dream come true. Since getting a book deal last year, I’ve been working on two more books in addition to The Elites, one of which is to be published next year by Hot Key as part of my book deal, and every single day when I sit down at my laptop to write, I remind myself how wonderfully lucky I am to be living my dream. I really enjoy blogging and working as a social media consultant, but writing stories – it’s what I love. And I hope it’s something I can continue doing for the rest of my life. I’ve got so many ideas for new books, so as long as I’m ok health and money-wise, I should be writing for many, many years yet!

The Elites is a futuristic young adult sci-fi/fantasy novel set in a city where no one ever enters, and no one leaves. The story follows Silver, one of the privileged Elites – the guard of the city’s leaders – as she does the unthinkable and leaves the city, discovering in turn the secrets it keeps hidden both inside and outside its walls. The Elites is an adventure story with dashings of sci-fi, fantasy, romance, racial issues and social commentary thrown into the mix. As it is a young adult novel, the book is primarily aimed at teens, but I definitely hope it finds a wider reading audience. People of all ages have read and enjoyed it so far, so please don’t let the fact that it’s a YA novel put you off!

If you’d like to, you can find out more about The Elites (and read the first few chapters) here on my publisher’s website, and it’s in all your usual places online, such as Amazon, Waterstones and The Book Depository. You can of course get it in bookshops too! A big thank you again to all of you who’ve been tweeting and messaging me to say you’ve got a copy or two – it means the absolute world to me. A blog would be nothing without the support of its readers, and the same goes for an author. Thank you, thank you, thank you. When I first started writing The Elites, I never let myself believe it would one day be more than just a story on my laptop, a story in my heart. Now people are reading it – enjoying it even! – and all I can hope for is that my little story will find its way into their hearts, too. x

Motel off shoulder dress

LUCKY RED

I am the queen of dresses you can just throw on. I love them. I love them even more when they’re in a t-shirt style. But simple throw-on dresses can sometimes get a little boring, so when a beauty like this Motel dress comes along, you let it into your life with open arms. Even Callum, who’s usually pretty ambivalent about my outfits, was like “Oh, that’s nice! I like that!” (though he did tell me off for not ironing it properly …). It’s just an easy, flirty dress that makes you feel amazing wearing it. I want all the other colours now – black would be especially good for the daytime with boots or high-top Converse and a leather jacket. As the dress is so beautiful, it doesn’t need a lot of accessories. Just a pop of glitz with a gold necklace, ankle-straps and a fun bag. Perfect going-out outfit when you’ve left it too late and with five minutes before you have to leave, you’re rushing about manically trying to shove on some make-up and decide what in the world to wear (aka me every day). x
