Styling Red Chinos

I’m delighted to welcome my boyfriend Callum back on the blog! Not only is he such a hottie (hands off ladies!), but it’s nice to feature some men’s fashion on the blog for a change. GANT sent Callum this pair of bright red chinos and asked us to style them three ways. With a little help from me (read: a lot), Callum came up with these three outfits. I think he did amazingly to get three different outfits out of such brightly coloured red trousers. They’re a difficult thing to style, especially with Callum’s very limited wardrobe! My favourite outfit is probably the last one – I do love a light denim shirt, and the Ted Baker satchel is awesome.

What do you think of Callum’s styling? x

Bunny Rabbit Inspired Fashion for Easter

Not being a religious person myself, Easter to me is all about bunnies and chocolate. I’m not usually one for the commercialism of these types of holidays, but I do love animal-inspired fashion, so Easter is a good excuse for me to unearth some fabulous new bunny-licious finds to add to my wardrobe. The whimsical representation of rabbits in popular culture – think of Alice going down the rabbit hole to Wonderland – is playful and fun, so I’ve picked pieces which reflect that. This style is all about British eccentricity, so don’t be afraid to wear a pair of rabbit ears with a casual t shirt and jeans combo, or layer up rabbit-inspired jewellery and accessories with pretty dresses.

Happy Easter! x

Jeanography Online Denim Shopping Review

All pink outfitPastel pink spring outfitBrushed metal ring How to style pink jeansUK female fashion blogger

top: Primark, jeans: SIWY Hannah Skinny in Air Kiss c/o Jeanography, shoes: Minx c/o Lulu’s, bag: c/o Britstitch, sunnies: River Island c/o ASOS, ring: c/o Mei-Li Rose

I don’t know why I keep getting drawn to pink outfits lately. Perhaps its the promise of spring they hold – wear me and it’ll be a bright, beautiful day filled with sunshine and laughter. Perhaps it’s just that I’ve been in a feminine mood. But what I love about modern interpretations of pink is that the pieces aren’t overly pretty or girly. By mixing blush pink with harder materials like denim (these jeans) or leather (this bag), and teaming floral prints with the more casual shape of a t-shirt (this exquisite top from Primark – can you believe it was just a tenner?!), designers are making sure that even girls who like a bit of edge can find pink accessible this season.

Anyway, the star of the show in this outfit are these amazing SIWY jeans, which I got from online jean matchmakers Jeanography. I’m calling them jean matchmakers because that’s exactly what they do. Their Fit First Time service guarantees to find you a denim match made in heaven. Having tried out the service myself, I can safely say that this is an amazing new way to shop for jeans, which are without doubt the trickiest part of online shopping. I love my digital stores, but more often than not I’m disappointed when I receive any jeans I’ve ordered in the post. It’s just so difficult getting the fit right when every pair of jeans are cut different and you aren’t able to try any on first. Plus, I often feel overwhelmed when I look for jeans online – there’s so much choice, you just don’t know where to start sometimes. Jeanography have also addressed this issue by having a limited range of top-end denim brands (7FAM, Hudson, MIH etc), so you know the all the jeans will be of the highest quality. I received two sizes of the Hudson Jeans Nico Mid Rise Super Skinny in Black and these SIWY jeans. Amazingly, all three pairs fit well, and I had a hard time choosing which was my favourite to keep.

I can’t recommend Jeanography enough. With free delivery and returns, it’s definitely worth a try even if you are dubious. Find out more details about how the Fit First Time service works on the Jeanography website. x

One of a Kind Jewellery Giveaway

Mei-Li Rose jewellery

Mei-Li Rose

My favourite jewellery pieces are ones that are somehow special to me, emotive, personal, whether they’re a gift like the ring Callum got for me for my 23rd birthday which has a line engraved on the inside from my debut novel, or something I’ve bought for myself, like a black cat ring that reminds me of a character from the book I’m currently writing.  That’s why I’m really excited about this giveaway, because one of you will win a completely unique, one-off, custom-made piece designed by Mei-Li Rose exclusively for Girl in the Lens.

Mei-Li is an up-and-coming British jewellery designer who has an eye for bold, graphic shapes and quirky details, and I absolutely adore her aesthetic. When she approached me about design ideas, I knew that I wanted something to symbolise Girl in the Lens without being too obvious, so we chose a shutter motif to base the design around. Mei-Li then came up with a couple of gorgeous layered designs, and we asked you to choose your favourite from the two and suggest material ideas. The majority of you went for the design on the left, but it was split between silver and rose gold, so we decided to have one layer in each material.

You can see the making of process and final pieces in the photo below. I’m beyond delighted about the outcome. It means so much to be able to wear the ring and think of everything it symbolises – how far our blog has come from it’s early days, the opportunities and experiences Callum and I have had as a result of all our hard work on it, how lovely our readers are. It makes me teary just thinking about it! Because of sizing issues, Mei-Li and I decided a pendant version would be best to give away on the blog, so read on if you’d like to win your very own unique Girl in the Lens necklace. I really hope you love the designs as much as we do … x

This Week’s Top Blogger Looks

People always ask where I get my fashion inspiration from. While it’s true that I do like a good browse through a glossy magazine like most girls, and that I check out the fashion week catwalks online, my biggest fashion influence will always come from street style. And the best thing is that, thanks to the internetz, street style from all over the world is now accessible via these amazing things called blogs. I used to do a feature where I’d pick out particular bloggers who style I admire, but I think it’s more useful to do a weekly round up of blog looks that are inspiring me at the moment. These are the outfits I spotted from last week that made me dizzy with their fashionable awesomeness. Which is your favourite look? x
